The humble man (or woman) shed

When we moved into our current house, I knew I'd made it - not only did we take ownership of a huge loft in which to 'store' all our 'seasonal' stuff, we also now had 3 outbuildings. Fast-forward a few years and both loft and 'sheds' are now well stocked - the latter with essential man-tools, bikes and beer. But inevitably all that space isn't now quite enough and I've been on the hunt for another potential solution to my outdoor storage 'crisis'.

Enter the Kekkila Green Shed - a modular garden shed and greenhouse range by Helsinki architect Ville Hara and designer Linda Bergroth. The range aims to combine practical garden functionality (storage and greenhouse) with a space in which to enjoy the outdoors. I love how the minimalist design manages to combine the two uses in a beautiful structure whilst retaining it's obvious roots in that most functional and humble of outdoor structures, the shed.

Unfortunately, I suspect our residential garden may not quite deliver the green, wooded, Scandinavian outdoor paradise that would allow the Kekkila to truly come into it's own - however, if I've learnt one thing, it's that yes, the record player does indeed have a place in the shed.
